Saint Thomas Aquinas

1225–1274

Saint Thomas Aquinas, 1225–1274
January 28

When Saint Thomas Aquinas was a student at the University of Paris in France, the other students called him “the dumb ox” because he was big and didn’t talk much. But Thomas ended up being one of the smartest and wisest men in the history of the Church. He wrote a three-part study of Catholic teaching called the Summa Theologica. He believed we become wise by the things we learn, but also through our faith in God. Saint Thomas also was a university teacher and a consultant to the Pope. Even today, people study his writings and teaching.

Discuss: What helps you to become wise?
