Saint Tarsicius, Third or Fourth Century

August 15

Saint Tarsicius lived in Rome. He loved Jesus very much. One day, he went on a secret mission. He carried the Eucharist to Christians who were in prison. They were in jail because of their faith in Jesus. Some people who were not Christians discovered his secret mission. They began to throw stones at Saint Tarsicius. They wanted to take the Eucharist from him. They killed him. When they looked at his robes, the Eucharist had disappeared! Saint Tarsicius reminds us to always respect the Eucharist because it is Jesus.

Tarsicius may have been a deacon of Rome. He is the patron Saint of altar servers and a patron of first communicants.

Discuss: How can you show respect for Jesus in the Eucharist?
