All in the Family

Some family traditions center around holidays, others are focused on food or games. But the Marascalco-Mooberry family has a multi-generational family tradition that's based on tooth care.

Forty years ago, dentist Sam Marascalco helped to establish the dental clinic of Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona in Tucson. Twenty years later, Phil Mooberry, DDS, Marascalco's son-in-law, started volunteering his dentistry skills, too. Then, in 2006, Mooberry's son and Marascalco's grandson, dentist Nick Mooberry, joined the volunteer team.

This three-generation dental team treats approximately one dozen needy patients every month. They also help lead an annual fundraising golf tournament each year, which raises more than $60,000 annually for dental equipment and supplies, and work to recruit additional dental volunteers and solicit donations from various dental foundations and community groups. Their efforts provide dental care to indigent people throughout the area who otherwise could not afford such services.
