Pope Francis’ schedule released for World Youth Day

Pope Francis will return to South America July 22-29 for the 28th World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Vatican released the following schedule:

Monday, July 22
8:45 a.m. — Depart Ciampino Airport in Rome

4 p.m. (local time) — Arrive in Rio de Janeiro

5 p.m. — Welcoming ceremony with Brazil's president, Dilma Rousseff, at the garden of the Guanabara Palace

Tuesday, July 23
All day — Rest at Sumare Residence, Rio de Janeiro

Wednesday, July 24
8:15 a.m. — Travel to the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in Aparecida, Brazil, and celebrate Mass

Lunch — Join bishops and seminarians at the Bom Jesus Missionary Seminary

Evening — After returning to Rio, visit the St. Francis of Assisi of the Providence of God Hospital

Thursday, July 25
Morning — Receive keys to the city of Rio de Janeiro and bless the Olympic flags at the City Palace and visit a community in Varginha

6 p.m. — Welcoming ceremony by the youth along the Copacabana beachfront (WYD officially begins)

Friday, July 26
10 a.m. — Hear confession of some youth at the Quinta da Boa Vista Park

11:30 a.m. — Meet some juvenile detainees in the St. Joaquim Palace of the Archbishop

12 p.m. — Pray the Angelus from the central balcony of the palace

12:15 p.m. — Greet organization committee and patrons of 28th WYD at palace

Lunch — Join a group of 12 youths at palace

6 p.m. — Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) with youth along the Copacabana beachfront

Saturday, July 27
9 a.m. — WYD opening Mass with bishops, priests and seminarians at St. Sebastian Cathedral

Afternoon — Meet with Brazil's leaders to discuss challenges and social contrasts at the Municipal Theater

Lunch — Join Brazil's cardinals, the presidency of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, bishops from the region and the papal entourage in the refectory of the Sumare Study Centre

7:30 p.m. — Prayer vigil with the youth at the Campus Fidei of Guaratiba

Sunday, May 28
Morning — Celebrate Mass with approximately 2 million youth at the Campus Fidei and announce location of next WYD

Afternoon — Meet with the Latin American Episcopal Conference (CELAM) coordination committee at the Sumare Study Centre

5 p.m. — Leave to meet with WYD volunteers

6:30 p.m. — Farewell ceremony at the Galeao-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport

7 p.m. — Depart Rio de Janeiro
