During the annual Fall General Assembly of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in November, the U.S. bishops will vote on an important document that will invite Catholics to confession. The document’s intent is to encourage Catholics to mark Lent of next year with a return to regular celebration of the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation.

The document underscores the connection between confession and the New Evangelization during the Year of Faith established by Pope Benedict XVI, and invites all Catholics to participate in this important sacrament.

The USCCB’s Evangelization and Catechesis Committee will provide additional teaching resources for parishes and dioceses; check the website at usccb.org for updates that you can share with your students. Encourage your students to look toward Lent 2013 as a fresh opportunity to make the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation a regular part of their faith lives.
